The tireless efforts of Kirra's Scott Byrnes were acknowledged on 8th June 2009 by being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for 'service to surf lifesaving through a range of training and administrative roles'. Scott's inclusion on the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours List is a fitting honour for his commitment to the Life Saving movement and should serve as an inspiration to all at Kirra.
