The Point Danger Branch was established in 1924 with the first meeting being held on the 2nd November of that year. Kirra has always been prominent in Branch affairs.
At the first meeting the following Kirra members were elected to Office: President: Arthur Powell Honorary Secretary: S.W. (Bill) Winders Examiner in Chief: John Gordon
Over the years the following Kirra members have held high Office in the Branch: President: Jack Winders, Earle Smith, Barrie Thorne Honorary Secretary: Jack Winders Superintendents: Allan Kennedy, Earle Avery, Earle Smith, Max Klinger, Bob Gear, Peter Beauchamp Gear Officer: Jim Mullins Education Officer: Scott Byrnes Administrator: Kerrie Barnes
Many other Kirra Members have served on the Board of Examiners. Initially the Branch extended from Cudgen Headland to Southport. In 1945 this was changed to Cudgen Headland to Tallebudgera. A further change made in 1965 with the Branch being reduced in size to Rainbow Bay to Tallebudgera.
 For many years Branch meetings were held at the Kirra Club. At the instigation of Kirra Club the Branch decided to build the current Branch Headquarters on the banks of Currumbin Creek in the mid 1970’s. Kirra contributed $1000 to the cost of the building and donated the President’s chair. |
